Conversation Studio allows you to build an Intelligent Virtual Assistant (IVA) which is equipped with various Skills. A Skill set is a collection of all the Skills your IVA has. These Skills helps the user to resolve their query. A Skill set aligns with the overall goals of the IVA.
On Conversation Studio, a varied array of these Skills are already present and are known as Smart Skills.
What are Smart Skills?
If there is a Smart Skill existing for the use case you want to build, you dont have to design or build the bot from scratch, you can just make relevant changes to the existing smartskill and you're good to go!
Smart Skills are carefully curated, pre-designed, and highly intelligent conversational journeys. This is the starting point to designing journeys that provide end to end solutions to business problems and can be added to your IVAs within a few clicks. They are editable and can be tailored to suit your business processes and needs.
Using Smart Skills in the IVA not only reduces development time, but also ensures that IVAs are more robust since they contain conversational UI using best design practices, pre-trained domain-specific intents, and demo APIs already integrated.

How to add Smart Skills?
Click on the +Add Skills button to add required skills on the IVA. As soon as the button is clicked, a modal would open showcasing all skills available on the platform.
Smart Skills are highly intelligent, pre-built conversational journeys.
There is a Search option available to look for your desired Smart Skill as well.
Once you click on any Smart Skill, a pop-up modal opens up which mentions all the details about the Smart Skill.
You can also test out the Smart Skill under the modal before using it in your IVA. This preview and test option helps to understand the capabilities of the skill in more detail.
Once you have tested the Smart Skill and if it aligns with your use-case, go ahead and click on the Add SmartSkill button.
The entire Smart Skill will be imported on your IVA as shown below -
On the Left hand side, you will be able to see the list of all the Skills added on your IVA.
How to make changes in the skill?
Before making changes in the skill, it’s important to understand the overall design of the smart skill. Get in touch with your conversation designer to get the design file.
- UI elements, menu and greeting message
You can navigate to the Business Manager section of the bot where you can change -
- Bot Icon, color of the bot, etc.
- Configure the taskbox and greeting message.
- Configure the bot break message and so on.
- Bot responses
- On the bot, you can use various chat elements to change the existing bot responses.
